Practical PDF Sewing Patterns

A Blurb from Jen

Hello everyone, I’m Jen! I’ve been working with Gail for a little over 6 months and I realized I never introduced myself to the Flosstyle community. I happened upon Flosstyle 2 years ago while on the hunt for a preemie/newborn outfit. Of course, the Itty Bitty came highly recommended in the large PDF group on Facebook.

I made the Itty Bitty for a Harry Potter loving friend. The dress fabric was from Joanns and the Kimono top was from Backstitch.

I live in Tennessee with my wonderful husband and 4 children. The kiddos range from 11 years old to newborn. 4 weeks ago we added our newest member to my family. Here he is in his own Itty Bitty set!

I’m sure you all have seen Shawn before, I started on the Flosstyle Marketing team sewing for her.

I started sewing when I was a kid. I remember being really little and sitting with my great grandmother “helping” her sew mine and my sister’s clothing. Most techniques I learned from my dad though. He also would make mine and my sister’s dresses for special occasions, Easter and etc.
Anyways, I’m happy to be a part of Flosstyle and I’m excited for all the things yet to come!!!

Where it all began – 42 patterns in 4 years

An origins story unlike those you find in Hollywood! Flosstyle history starts in 2013 with a peasant dress…

The following excerpt is copied from The Organised Craft Den with permission.

Written by Jess Turner (Founder/Original Designer of Flosstyle Patterns)

42 may be the answer to life and the universe according to galaxy hitch-hikers, but it is also very meaningful to me.

Between March 2013 and February 2017 I spent 4 years designing, testing and publishing sewing patterns.

During that time I published 42 sewing patterns! That’s more than 10 per year or at one point I actually published 4 in the space of 4 weeks (they took months of prep, but were all ready around the same time).

My daughter was nick named Floss and it was sewing for her that got me into pattern making – hence the business name Flosstyle!

Let’s reminisce in roughly chronological order:

Fair warning, this is a rather long list…

It all started in 2013 with a peasant dress for my baby girl when she was just a newborn.

First released was the PIPPY with more options than you could poke a stick at, later re-released as the PARADISE with just 3 options.

52 Week Sewing Challenge – Week 26

This weeks Challenge: Something with Stars (Rejected)

I know the other states have already been using re-usable bags for awhile now, but here in Queensland they have just started phasing them out at the supermarkets. So this week I thought I better get a start on making some re-usable bags for my shopping.

The One Yard Tote has just been added to the store for free, you can find it here.

I found this amazing zebra print in the curtain section at spotlight, being a little heavier it is perfect for a re-usable bag.

I had a little trouble deciding on a colour for the lining but decided to go with a light purple and now that it’s finished I love it. To be honest this bag probably isn’t going to make it to the shops, its’s the perfect size for my notebook, folders and laptop.

What did you sew this week? We would love you to come and share with us in the Flosstyle Fair Facebook Group.

Happy Sewing

Gail x

52 Week Sewing Challenge – Week 18

This weeks Challenge: Purse or Wallet (Accepted)

This week was the Tidy Travel Tote Sew Along so it made it an obvious choice to use as this weeks sewing challenge item.

The Tidy Travel Tote is a handy nappy clutch with snap-able handle that can be looped over your pram or trolley. Perfect for quick trips out of the house when you din’t want to take the whole nappy bag. This is my go to baby shower gift, especially for those mum’s who aren’t finding out what they are having as you can make something in fabrics/colours to suit the mum.

You can get the pattern here: Tidy Travel Tote

You can find all the event details for the sew along here: Tidy Travel Sew Along

Happy Sewing xx

Gail
