Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 12

This weeks challenge: Scrap Busting
Accepted/Rejected: Accepted

I love appliques for scrap busting, they use such tiny pieces of fabric that I can find a use for even my smallest scraps. I have been working on some appliques patterns getting them ready for release and the dog I made this week is one of those so no pattern available yet.

The One Yard Tote is perfect for adding appliques to and is a super quick sew, perfect for a last minute gift. The One Yard Tote is a free pattern too which makes it even better.

I love being able to upcycle when I’m sewing, so the inside of this one yard tote is made from and old quilt cover that I got from an Op Shop last year for $3. I’ve lost count of the things I have made with it already and there is still so much of it left in my cupboard waiting to be turned into other new creations.

Happy Sewing
xx Gail

52 Week Sewing Challenge – Week 41

This weeks Challenge: Socks or Tights (Rejected)

I’ve had this shirt sitting in my stash for an upcycle project for at least a year now, so when deciding the challenges for the upcycle challenge I wanted to make sure to choose a challenge that would allow me to use it.

I decided it would be perfect to turn into a Paradise Dress. I struggled a little with the placement of the pattern pieces until I decided to take the pocket off, which gave me a little bit more room to move the pieces around, I managed to save the existing hem. Once I had my pieces cut I used the left over parts to cut strips to turn into binding for the straps. Once the dress was finished I relocated the pocket to the bottom of the skirt.

I love the look that keeping the button placket has given the dress and am now even more excited to make something from the other shirts in my stash.

Happy Sewing

52 Week Sewing Challenge – Week 8

This weeks Challenge: Something Upcycycled (Accepted)

My father in law has been asking me to make him a bucket hat for awhile but I wasn’t sure what fabric to use. He fixed that problem by bringing around one of his old shirts asking if I could turn it into a hat for him.

I started by cutting it up at the seams to be able to lay it flat and place all my pattern pieces.

I found some light blue homespun in my stash that matched nicely for the reverse side and hey presto we have a hat created from an old shirt. If you haven’t made an Ultimate Bucket Hat before you can find everything you need to know here.

The best part is I have enough left to make a matching little hat for Mr 2.

xx Happy Sewing
