Sewing Challenge 2022 – Week 4

This weeks challenge: Sunshine
Accepted/Rejected: Accepted

Wow, it’s Week 4 already and January is nearly over, I’m not sure when that happened. When I saw the challenge for this week was Sunshine, I knew I had the perfect fabric in my stash to use. I love the colours in this print so much.

It’s probably no surprise that I went with some cute Sprouts Twigs this week, it’s definitely one of my favourite sews when I’m looking for something that sews up quickly ( under 20 mins from start to finish) and I love that I can make them completely on the overlocker.

They looked so cute once they were finished that I decided to make a matching beanie.

How are you going with the challenge so far? I have been loving seeing all the amazing creations each week in The Aussie 52 Week Sewing Challenge Group. It’s so interesting to see all the different ways people are interpreting the challenges.

Happy Sewing
xx Gail

Sewing Challenge 2022 – Week 2

This weeks challenge: Staples
Accepted/Rejected: Accepted

If you’ve been a fan of Flosstyle Patterns for a while you would already know that one of my absolute favourite patterns is the Sprouts, they are super quick to sew up and there are so many different ways to change them up or add things to get a completely different look all from the one pattern. So it’s no surprise that my first challenge sews for 2022 would be some Sprouts.

I found this super cute fabric at Spotlight just last week, it was so soft even before being washed, making it perfect for some cute little baby sprouts.

I love the look of the elastic bottom cuff that a lot of ready to wear baby clothes have at the moment so used the trees cuff and threaded elastic through to give the look I was after.

Once they were done I decided they didn’t look finished and needed some bibs to go with them. I used the Hybrid bib pattern to sew up some super cute matching bibs.

I even got adventurous and made another TikTok this week. You can find it here.

Happy Sewing
xx Gail

Bolster Beanbag

Photo Credit Jennifer Epp – Footrest size with sofa and moon top, with the optional handle.

The Bolster Beanbag release, Tuesday 27th of August 2019.

This is the first sewing pattern I have designed. It has been a dream of mine since I was 10. My son was the inspiration behind this pattern.

There are 4 sizes to choose from:

Footrest: perfect name for its use but also great as bed for a small pet.

Toddler: as the name suggests, perfect for a toddler or small child.

Kids/Adult: Great all-rounder for the family.

Adult Plus: This is the big-boy! I always see listings for the HUGE beanbags that one could dream of. This size for sure is a winner.

Adult Plus – Model is my dad who had to have one too!

There are 3 shapes for the top of the beanbag; round, moon and sofa.

From Left to Right: Round, Moon, Sofa

The Bolster Beanbag has a removable outer cover to allow for easy machine washing. Perfect to curl up to read a book, catch up on the latest Netflix show or just lounge around on this comfy, cushy beanbag.

Always great to remember dreams do come true! Thank you Gail for making it possible for me.

Sewing for my Kids

Like everyone else our lives are pretty busy and between my day job, running Flosstyle and making sure I spend enough time with my family I don’t always get to sew for my kids as much as I’d like. ( I’m sure that’s not what you came here expecting to read)

The two crazy boys and me

When I do sew I want to make sure it’s something they need or are going to get a lot of use out of, rather than a just because I can piece that they might only wear once or twice, because let’s be honest who really wants to spend that precious time sewing for something that’s not going to be used very much!

With the weather starting to warm up and the kids growing way too quickly both my little monsters need new clothes. So I’ve decided I’m going to create a capsule wardrobe for them and would love for you all to join in!

Mr P and I – Rocking our Rainbow Hat beanies

What is a capsule wardrobe and how does it work?

Its a collection of coordinating clothes that can be used to form multiple outfits. So if you create 4 Shorts/pants, 4 tops and 2 hats that adds up to a possibility of 32 different outfits!!

Master P chose this fabric months ago and despite it sitting on my desk I still haven’t made something for him. Perfect spring fabric was just waiting for the right time.

But there is no way I’m getting that much sewn times 2, so I will be mixing it up with some bought, some sewn and and some upcycled/modified clothing to create the perfect spring capsule for the boys. Look out for my next post about organising their wardrobes.
