Sewing Challenge 2022 – Week 4

Wow, it’s Week 4 already and January is nearly over, I’m not sure when that happened. When I saw the challenge for this week was Sunshine, I knew I had the perfect fabric in my stash to use. I love the colours in this print so much.

It’s probably no surprise that I went with some cute Sprouts Twigs this week, it’s definitely one of my favourite sews when I’m looking for something that sews up quickly ( under 20 mins from start to finish) and I love that I can make them completely on the overlocker.

They looked so cute once they were finished that I decided to make a matching beanie.

How are you going with the challenge so far? I have been loving seeing all the amazing creations each week in The Aussie 52 Week Sewing Challenge Group. It’s so interesting to see all the different ways people are interpreting the challenges.

Sewing Challenge 2022 – Week 2

If you’ve been a fan of Flosstyle Patterns for a while you would already know that one of my absolute favourite patterns is the Sprouts, they are super quick to sew up and there are so many different ways to change them up or add things to get a completely different look all from the one pattern. So it’s no surprise that my first challenge sews for 2022 would be some Sprouts.

I found this super cute fabric at Spotlight just last week, it was so soft even before being washed, making it perfect for some cute little baby sprouts.

I love the look of the elastic bottom cuff that a lot of ready to wear baby clothes have at the moment so used the trees cuff and threaded elastic through to give the look I was after.

Once they were done I decided they didn’t look finished and needed some bibs to go with them. I used the Hybrid bib pattern to sew up some super cute matching bibs.

Sewing Challenge 2022 – Week 1

What a perfect challenge to start off the new year with, I struggle to sew when my sewing space isn’t clean but I’d rather be sewing than cleaning so it often ends up pretty messy before I finally get around to tidying up.

I have just moved my sewing room to a new space and it wasn’t completely unpacked yet either so this challenge gave me the kick up the bum I needed to get it done. Refolding and putting away fabric was very distracting and I now have about 1000 project ideas swirling around in my head.

A new year seemed like the perfect time to start a TikTok too, there’s not much up there just yet but I had some fun this week trying to figure out how it all works and look forward to making more as I get some more sewing done. You can find the Flosstyle TikTok channel here.

Despite the beautiful clean space in the video and the photos, I have already managed to mess it up again but that means I have been sewing and after not getting a lot of sewing time in lately I’m okay with that.

Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 5

This weeks challenge: Sew Your Favourite Pattern

If you’ve been following along with my weekly sews so far this year it will come as no surprise that my favourite pattern at the moment is the Ultimate Bucket Hat.

Although I did mix it up just a little this week and made this one out of two linen tea towels at the request of my mother in law.

I wasn’t super convinced that the tea towel with the wine glasses was going to work when she first brought them to me but she was convinced it would. As I was sewing the hat up it grew on me and by the end I had decided I liked it.

I promise I won’t be making another hat next week! I think I’m all hatted out for awhile.

Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 4

This weeks challenge: Swim

This weeks challenge is Swim, we usually end up swimming outdoors which means the kids need extra hats for swimming, because once they get out of the water they want a dry hat to wear.

I saw this amazing fabric at Spotlight a little while back and knew it would make amazing hats, they are part of the Jijaka range. The colours are so vibrant and the patterns are so detailed.

Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 1

Oh my gosh I can’t believe it’s 2020 already! This year I thought I’d have another go at the 52 Week Sewing Challenge, its a great motivator to try and sew something each week.

If you want to join ion too you can find the Facebook Groups for the Aussie Group here, and the US Group here. Both follow the same concept but the tasks for each week are slightly different, I will be following the Australian group since I’m in Australia, because the tasks align better with the seasons here.
