Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 29

This weeks challenge: Woven
Accepted/Rejected: Rejected

So it’s probably no surprise that I made Sprouts Twigs again this week, Mr 5 found this crazy bright rainbow cotton lycra on our recent trip to Spotlight and wasn’t letting me leave the shop without it.

He also told me exactly what I was going to make for him and was entirely unimpressed when he woke up the next morning and his new pants weren’t waiting beside the sewing machine. (Cue the massive mum guilt)

After seeing how sad he was I made sure to get them made for him the next night, these are so quick to sew I managed to get a pair sewn up for my nephew too.

I didn’t love this fabric in the shop but once I saw it was sewn up into Sprouts I think I’ve changed my mind, I have a small bit of this fabric left and haven’t decided what to make with it yet so keep an eye out on my future makes.

Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 28

This weeks challenge: Book Week
Accepted/Rejected: Accepted

Book week has been moved to October this year, but a few weeks ago we had simultaneous story time, you can read about it here. Mr 4’s daycare had a dress up day that was themed “Dress up like a Diva”.

We went to the fabric shop especially for him to choose the fabrics he wanted for this costume and he was so excited when we found the sparkly stars and even more excited when he found the gold lamé for the crown.

Mr 4 has so many pairs of Sprouts pants like these because they are my go to for dress up days, they are super quick and easy to make and can be sewn completely on the overlocker.

For the crown I used the Bunny Bucket Crown with optional elastic, which means it also fits Mr 10 too much to my little guys upset.

Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 21

This weeks challenge: Winter is Coming
Accepted/Rejected: Accepted

So this week I made more Sprouts! Surprise. They really are the best for winter pants for Mr 4 to wear to daycare to keep warm and still be able to run around and play easily.

The Sprouts pattern is one of my favourites because it’s super versatile and has options for boys and girls. These are the Twigs option, I love the cuff because it means they can e a little too long but still stay up and that way the kids get a bit of extra wear out of them before they are too short.

I love both of these fabrics as they are dark so hopefully when they get dirty it won’t be as noticeable. I got both these fabrics from Obsessed by Fabric in late 2018, but she has now closed.

Parker was so excited when I gave him both of these this week and can’t wait to show his friends at Kindy.

Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 20

This weeks challenge: 1m Fabric Only
Accepted/Rejected: Accepted

I found this amazing dinosaur cotton spandex at Spotlight and was super excited because they usually have a pretty limited choice in the cotton spandex range.

Parker still needs some more winter pants so it was an easy choice to make some more Sprouts Twigs for him this week. I decided to make a matching pair for my nephew and a hybrid bib to go with them.

I still have some ore left that I will most likely use to make some jocks for the big kidlet, he has been asking for some more mum made jocks for awhile.

Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 19

This weeks challenge: Aussie Fabric Only
Accepted/Rejected: Accepted

I don’t like to pay the crazy shipping fees for fabric from outside of Australia and trying to figure out the conversion rates, so almost all of my fabric has been bought from an Australian retailer. (and since it would be super hard to find fabric that was manufactured completely in Australia I’m counting purchased from an Australian retailer as accepting this weeks challenge.)

It got pretty cold here this week and Parker has been wearing some of last years winter pants but he’s had a growth spurt and while they still fit (just) they aren’t going to last all of winter so I thought I better get organised and get him some new winter clothes sewn up.

My favourite pattern for winter pants is the Sprouts in the Twigs option. They are great for daycare as he can still run around and play and even when they are a bit too long the cuff keeps them in place on his leg and not in the dirt so I can make them a a little longer for more wear.

I made two pairs and still need to make a few more, the foxes came from Fabric by Missy Rose and the Sharks came from a retailer that has since closed, they are both 220 Cotton Lycra which I have found stands up to the roughness of my crazy kid.

Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 18

This weeks challenge: Sleepwear
Accepted/Rejected: Accepted

One of my favourite ways to use the Sprouts Tree option is to add a ribbing cuff to the bottom of the leg, this is great for pj pants or even day pants depending on the fabric used. The Marvel pair below were the first pair I made with the ribbing cuff and I am super sad the kid outgrew them and I don’t have enough of the fabric to make a bigger pair.

For pj pants I like to make them with flannelette so they are great for the colder nights we have been having. Parker spent ages looking through my fabric stash to pick which prints he would like and finally decided on these 2.

He wanted me to make matching ones for his brother as well. I really struggled trying to take a photo of these altogether because the boys have grown so much.
