Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 6

This weeks challenge: Heart
Accepted/Rejected: Accepted

So initially I thought this weeks challenge was great for me because my son’s daycare are having are having a dress up day for Valentines Day. But after talking to him about what he would like dress up as he decided he would like to be a Valentines Super Hero, with a cape. Do you know what that looks like?? Because I was over here scratching my head for a quite awhile.

After some more chatting we decided on some Sprouts Twigs like the ones I made for Book Week last year but in red and a red cape to match.

I was already planning on making a Valentine’s Shirt after I saw something similar and the little monster approved it to be a part of his costume. The Ventura is perfect for iron on decals.

Here he is all dressed up and ready to go to daycare for the day.

Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 5

This weeks challenge: Sew Your Favourite Pattern
Accepted/Rejected: Accepted

If you’ve been following along with my weekly sews so far this year it will come as no surprise that my favourite pattern at the moment is the Ultimate Bucket Hat.

Although I did mix it up just a little this week and made this one out of two linen tea towels at the request of my mother in law.

I wasn’t super convinced that the tea towel with the wine glasses was going to work when she first brought them to me but she was convinced it would. As I was sewing the hat up it grew on me and by the end I had decided I liked it.

I promise I won’t be making another hat next week! I think I’m all hatted out for awhile.

Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 4

This weeks challenge: Swim
Accepted/Rejected: Accepted

This weeks challenge is Swim, we usually end up swimming outdoors which means the kids need extra hats for swimming, because once they get out of the water they want a dry hat to wear.

I saw this amazing fabric at Spotlight a little while back and knew it would make amazing hats, they are part of the Jijaka range. The colours are so vibrant and the patterns are so detailed.

How are you going so far with the challenge? I would love for you to pop over to Flosstyle Fair and let me know.

Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 3

This weeks challenge: Headwear
Accepted/Rejected: Accepted

I have had these two bucket hats sitting here for a little while now and the kids have been super patient waiting for them to be done, so I thought this week would be the perfect time to get them finished.

The kids were super excited that their hats were finally finished and couldn’t wait to wear them.

Now if only I could get around to finishing all the other half finished projects sitting on my sewing desk. How many unfinished projects do you have?

Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 2

This weeks challenge: Back to school/ library charity
Accepted/Rejected: Accepted (kind of)

So this week isn’t a new sew. I made this Bazinga Backpack quite awhile ago now and it has been used almost daily since then so is starting to show some signs of wear and tear. My kid isn’t the most gentle with his things, so I am surprised at how well it has held up.

The issue with it was the webbing from one of the straps had all but come out and was only just holding on.

It was a pretty quick fix and I made sure to seal the webbing really well before sewing it back in to hopefully stop the same thing from happening again.

Repairs are my least favourite part of sewing, do you like repairs or do you leave them far longer than you should like I do?

5 Essential Sews for a New Baby

New babies are always so exciting!

My first thoughts when I find out that a family member or friend is expecting is “what can I sew?” so I decided to put together a round up of my top 5 essential sews for a new baby.

Flosstyle Pattern Super Suit has got your baby essentials covered. Sleevles, short sleeve and long sleeve options along with skater dress hack.

Super Suit
The Super Suit is perfect and has your onesie needs covered all year round, with sleeveless, short sleeves and long sleeve versions. Starting at 00000 all the way up to size 2. The pattern also includes tank and dress options.

Check out the Skater Dress Hack

Flosstyle Patterns Rainbow Hat is perfect for kids of all ages and all seasons with the included beanie option.

Rainbow Hat
No matter what time of year it is there is a Rainbow Hat option to suit. There are 3 brim options straight, floppy or ruffled and even the option to make a beanie. A matching beanie is the perfect addition to any outfit to keep that little newborn head cozy and warm.

Flosstyle Patterns Sprouts, this pattern has so many options you won't need any other shorts/pants pattern!

Sprouts
With six different styles and a size range to cover from newborn to preschool the Sprouts are the only pants/shorts pattern you will need. My favourite option to make are the Bloomies, they are just so cute!

Watch the pucker hack video on our Facebook group.

Flosstyle Patterns Babys First Toys is great for babies who are just finding their hands and looking for something to play with. For older babies try the balloon ball cover.

Baby’s First Toys
The Baby’s First Toys make great gifts for boys and girls in fun fabrics and they can be made with or without the ruffles. Sized for little hands and designed with safety in mind they are perfect for little ones of all ages.

Kanga Carrier
The Kanga Carrier is probably my most fulfilling sew ever, being able to look at the finished carrier and say “I made that” is a pretty awesome feeling. The carrier can be made on most domestic machines and no overlocker is required. Plus it’s much simpler than it looks. (I promise).

We would love to see photos of your creations in our Flosstyle Fair group.
