New babies are always so exciting!
My first thoughts when I find out that a family member or friend is expecting is “what can I sew?” so I decided to put together a round up of my top 5 essential sews for a new baby.
Super Suit
The Super Suit is perfect and has your onesie needs covered all year round, with sleeveless, short sleeves and long sleeve versions. Starting at 00000 all the way up to size 2. The pattern also includes tank and dress options.

Rainbow Hat
No matter what time of year it is there is a Rainbow Hat option to suit. There are 3 brim options straight, floppy or ruffled and even the option to make a beanie. A matching beanie is the perfect addition to any outfit to keep that little newborn head cozy and warm.
Sprouts
With six different styles and a size range to cover from newborn to preschool the Sprouts are the only pants/shorts pattern you will need. My favourite option to make are the Bloomies, they are just so cute!

Baby’s First Toys
The Baby’s First Toys make great gifts for boys and girls in fun fabrics and they can be made with or without the ruffles. Sized for little hands and designed with safety in mind they are perfect for little ones of all ages.
Kanga Carrier
The Kanga Carrier is probably my most fulfilling sew ever, being able to look at the finished carrier and say “I made that” is a pretty awesome feeling. The carrier can be made on most domestic machines and no overlocker is required. Plus it’s much simpler than it looks. (I promise).
We would love to see photos of your creations in our Flosstyle Fair group.
Happy Sewing
