52 Week Sewing Challenge – Week 11

This weeks Challenge: Something Green (Accepted)

A friend from work is having a baby soon and I wanted to make a few things for her, and this weeks something green theme matched perfectly with some leaf print drill that I have been wanting to sew up for awhile so I decided to complete both goals and make a Tidy Travel Tote for my friend. If you haven’t made one of these before they are great! Small and compact enough to fit in my handbag but big enough to hold wipes, nappies, a change of clothes and a few extra bits like creams.

And the handle is detachable/adjustable so it can be clipped onto a pram or bag handle if it’s too big to fit inside your handbag.

I can’t wait to give this one to my friend!

52 Week Sewing Challenge – Week 10

This weeks Challenge: Something Colour Blocked (Accepted)

Who knew you could mash the Zoo with the Artiste? The Zoo is one of my favorite patterns so I use the bodice pieces often. I decided the Palette skirt from the Artiste, would be perfect for this week’s challenge. Behold a fun mash up!

I used the stork flutters from the zoo for the bodice. I even used knit and which meant I had to line the bodice to complete the armscye.
The palette skirt is made from woven fabrics so I attached the two and added clear elastic into the waist seam to help with recovery.

I interrupted an intense game of flashlight hide n seek to get this picture. My toddler is never still it seems. She had to wear it as soon as I finished sewing it, so you know it was instant love. Have you been adventurous and mixed any Flosstyle patterns together? I’d love to see them! Did you accept or reject this week’s challenge?

52 Week Sewing Challenge – Week 9

This weeks Challenge: Something with Buttons (Accepted)

With Easter coming around the corner very quickly, this weeks challenge is the perfect excuse to get some Bunny Buckets sewn up for the boys. They both are still carrying around last years buckets which are looking a little worse for wear. One is missing it’s handle even.

I saw the Bunny Tales Carrots and the Spotty Co-ord during the after Christmas sales and bought it exactly for this purpose. The fact they it actually got sewn up for it’s intended purpose and even in the right year is AMAZING! haha

I later found another co-ord from the same range and just had to have it too. I paired them with a light blue home spun at the request of Mr 7, who was very vocal that the carrot one was to be his.

The boys snuck into the sewing room and ran away with the carrot one before I could take photos and it has already had to have the button resewn, at least I know they will be loved.

52 Week Sewing Challenge – Week 8

This weeks Challenge: Something Upcycycled (Accepted)

My father in law has been asking me to make him a bucket hat for awhile but I wasn’t sure what fabric to use. He fixed that problem by bringing around one of his old shirts asking if I could turn it into a hat for him.

I started by cutting it up at the seams to be able to lay it flat and place all my pattern pieces.

I found some light blue homespun in my stash that matched nicely for the reverse side and hey presto we have a hat created from an old shirt. If you haven’t made an Ultimate Bucket Hat before you can find everything you need to know here.

The best part is I have enough left to make a matching little hat for Mr 2.

52 Week Sewing Challenge – Week 7

This weeks Challenge: Something with hearts (Accepted)

The challenge for week 7 is “Sew Something with Hearts”. Initially I was tempted to run to the fabric store and use this as an excuse to add to my growing fabric stash. But I was determined to stay true to my promise and not buy fabric for my challenges. So far I’ve only slipped up once.

Remember the Super Suit Skater Hack? You can find it here.  I decided this would be perfect for the funky peace and love fabric I had been storing. My toddler, the recipient, loves the swirl and twirl the half circle skirt provides.

I only changed 3 things from what the pattern and hack already offers. I cut the sleeves to be elbow length, added cuffs (who needs to hem!?) and added an inch to the length of the skater skirt.

Side note***bubbles will make any kid smile. So what’s up your sleeve this week? Did you accept or reject the Week 7 Challenge?

52 Week Sewing Challenge – Week 6

This weeks Challenge: Something Red or Pink (Accepted)

In case you haven’t noticed I am loving the Sprouts Bloomies at the moment and they go perfectly with the Paradise in shirt length. Again I have made a slight change to the Bloomies pattern and I am so happy with how they turned out!

To make these Bloomies I have changed which cuff I used. Normally for Bloomies you would use cuff A, for this pair I used cuff D and some elastic, which meant no gathering for those of you who don’t like it.

Cuff D is the same size as the leg opening so you need to attach as per the instructions for Sprouts Stumpies leaving a gap to thread elastic through. Your elastic should be the same length as cuff A for the size you are making.
