Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 32

Our Kindy has just introduced “Floral Fridays” to as a way to acknowledge and celebrate the Torres Straight Islander People and their culture, when I found this fabric online I fell in love with it and knew it would be perfect to make Mr 5 something to wear on Fridays.

The Ventura has long been a staple in my boys wardrobe because its quick and easy to sew but also because they love wearing them. Its winter here so I needed something with long sleeves and Mr 5 loves hoods so whatever I made had to have one.

I added the kangaroo pocket for the same reason, plus it added a great finishing touch to the shirt. Mr 5 was so excited when he saw this finished shirt and can’t wait to wear it to school on Friday.

Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 31

Oh my! I am in love with this fabric. I ordered it for a special project which you can read more about next week but I just couldn’t wait to cut into it and make something.

I was looking for a super quick make that I could fit in before picking the kids up from school, the Super Suit was the perfect choice, it sews up super quickly and looks great.

And just because at this point it’s almost expected that I make some Sprouts or maybe just because I was loving the way this solid looked I quickly made up some Twigs to match.

Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 30

Did you read last weeks post about the Rainbow Fabric that Mr 5 wouldn’t let me leave at the shop? Well in the same trip he found this rainbow ombre leopard print that he wasn’t letting go of either. He must have been extra cute that day… since we left with this one too.

This is a combed jersey with single stretch so I couldn’t make the Sprouts Twigs that he asked for instead I made a slightly modified version of the Sprouts Trees. I swapped out the cuffs and waistband from the twigs pattern in a ribbing.

He was still pretty excited to put these on when they were finished and couldn’t be talked out of wearing them to Kindy so I haven’t been able to get any modeled photos yet.

Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 29

So it’s probably no surprise that I made Sprouts Twigs again this week, Mr 5 found this crazy bright rainbow cotton lycra on our recent trip to Spotlight and wasn’t letting me leave the shop without it.

He also told me exactly what I was going to make for him and was entirely unimpressed when he woke up the next morning and his new pants weren’t waiting beside the sewing machine. (Cue the massive mum guilt)

After seeing how sad he was I made sure to get them made for him the next night, these are so quick to sew I managed to get a pair sewn up for my nephew too.

I didn’t love this fabric in the shop but once I saw it was sewn up into Sprouts I think I’ve changed my mind, I have a small bit of this fabric left and haven’t decided what to make with it yet so keep an eye out on my future makes.

Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 28

Book week has been moved to October this year, but a few weeks ago we had simultaneous story time, you can read about it here. Mr 4’s daycare had a dress up day that was themed “Dress up like a Diva”.

We went to the fabric shop especially for him to choose the fabrics he wanted for this costume and he was so excited when we found the sparkly stars and even more excited when he found the gold lamé for the crown.

Mr 4 has so many pairs of Sprouts pants like these because they are my go to for dress up days, they are super quick and easy to make and can be sewn completely on the overlocker.

For the crown I used the Bunny Bucket Crown with optional elastic, which means it also fits Mr 10 too much to my little guys upset.

Sewing Challenge 2020 – Week 22

I don’t really have any fears when it comes to sewing, I’m pretty happy to give anything a go at least once. The worst that can happen is it doesn’t work and I’ve wasted some time and fabric.

So this week I decided to sew a trolley liner, I found the sloth fabric at Spotlight and as soon as I saw it, it told me it wanted to become a trolley liner. Does fabric talk to you to?

Both of my boys are too big to need a trolley liner now although Parker was more than happy to jump in the trolley so I could take a few “in action”shots. I used a 10mm foam instead of wadding for this one, mostly because I didn’t have any wadding and the foam was left over from another project.

The cover is great to stop little hands touching the trolley as well as giving them a comfy spot to sit, with pockets and toy straps to stop them throwing their toy on the ground too.
